what’s everyone up to this rainy day?

I’m just at work doodling and trying to stay warm and dry. New york is so ugly today. Just had peppers with dill yogurt dip that i made yesterday, it was super delicious and whaddyakno healthy.

I have a deliriously painful migraine today and i’m not sure whether it’s because i’m sleep and coffee deprived (no coffee during this cleansing diet) or whether it’s…well…the weather.

It snowed this weekend, and I’m somewhat glad it’s raining today to melt all the ugly snow. I truly despise snow in New York City. Spring, where are you?

I’ve been working with a lot of overlaying and cut outs recently. I don’t know whether it’s my new ‘thing’ or it’s just because I’m getting more and more lazy as my life goes on.

Anyways, stay dry people, it’s a hearty soup kinda night.

It was just announced a few days ago that last year’s yearbook was awarded first place in the annual national publication competition by the American Scholastic Press Association.

I am beyond happy, and so unbelievably proud of my team and everyone who contributed and helped out or simply smiled for our cameras.

I am so grateful to have worked with my amazingly talented friends: Lexigirls + Ambrose. ftw.

Texas lovin part deux.

Here are more pictures from my Texas ventures. I was set on seeing an alligator.

So we went to circa four different swamps in the Houston area, all no luck. Then my cousin remembered that he knows this other sheriff who works at one of the parks animal reserves, so I got to play with baby alligators, they were surprisingly soft. We also saw some snakes, bearded dragons, gross spiders, a flying squirrel that peed on the lady showing us the animals, and a chinchilla that my niece thought was the Dave Chapelle of the animal kingdom. All the ball of fur did was jump from one side of it’s 1.5 foot deep cage to the other side, I thought we would have to resuscitate her because she was laughing so hard. It’s stupid how easily babies are so easily amused, I wish I could be like that. Then again, I did almost break a rib when that flying squirrel peed on the lady while trying to get away from her. It was just so….unexpected. We had a ton of foods, some which I’ve never tried, such as fired (alli)gator, boudin (a Louisiana dish), pozole (a mexican soup, which I guess I would compare to a mexican version of the vietnamese Pho), Cow tongue tacos, beignets (dessert) and some others that I can’t remember right now. Anyways, here are more pictures of my favorite Texas gurl and the rest of the animal world, alive and dead:

Went to look for buffalos when we couldn't find any gators in the swamps. also a no go.

at least we found the peacocks or else I would have been devastated

And then the biggest moment of my lifetime happened....I finally got to see (and touch) an alligator. It was way better than that one time I met Ashton Kutcher at the Starbucks near my school.

Texas lovin.

I finally received my Texas pictures in the mail. I almost died with joy at how perfect they came out and how much more exciting it was to actually hold my vacation in my hands. It is such a different feeling to hold pictures in your hand, you just never really know what to expect, since the last time you saw that same moment was through the viewfinder. I realized I love my baby niece more than the earth that surrounded her, she is just the cutest ham in the world. I’ve never seen a happier child than her, there just never is a moment when she isn’t smiling or she isn’t flirting with someone at a table across from us. Gosh, I miss her, well, my cousins too of course, and just the simple beauty of Houston. That place was just so easy going and relaxing, it was such a wonderful time. The only thing that was not in my favor was how much time was spent inside a car, it sort of made me miss our dirty subways. Also, we went to a biker rally down in Galveston, and it was balls of fun. My cousin allowed to take me down there on his motorcycle. It was my first ride on a two wheeler ever (not counting a regular bicycle) and it was the most exhilarating time I’ve ever had. I don’t know whether it was because we were moving so dang fast, or because there was nothing between me and the earth, me and the sky me and everything, just me practically flying through space on this bullet. It was amazing. I also was honored to meet my cousins many many ‘brothers’ from his biker club. They emphasize the term club because they don’t want to associate themselves with gangs, I mean, it’s understood, they’re all cops or retired cops. They were really scary and intimidating at first, but once we all had a few beers down we all let our guards down and of course all the big burly bikers were teddy bears on the inside. They all had really cool club names like Stitch or Bossman or Quickdraw. The guys took really good care of me and I am so so glad that I was able to meet them. Anyways, enough of my babbling, check out the grainy ole pictures of mine:

pregnant coworkers.

they’re to die for cute. it was such a fun time. not only are they both my coworkers but they are my very close friends. they (and some select others) are the ones that make our job bearable and to most outsiders ‘fun’/’amazing’. i mean, i guess, we do have privileges at this place.

anyways, the shoot was quick and simple, we just walked around in our area in the West Village and Chelsea. They were very easy to capture, they’re not awkward and they are open to suggestions, but then again, just simply being themselves was easy enough to capture. we’ll probably take more at their home some other time.It was just so easy to photographthem, they are fun and easy going, not too shmoozy and corny in front of the camera (nor in real life).

these past seven months have been such a phenomenon. Yes, I’ve seen my cousin go through her pregnancy, but with my coworker I have been able to see her almost daily and see the changes every week and more recently…the changes over just a weekend. Seeing these two people evolve from two singularities, to a pair, to coming out to being a couple, to moving together to finding out the pregnancy, to breaking everyone in on the pregnancy and seeing it all before your eyes. it’s simply a mushy miracle. oh and also, this baby is SUCH a resume booster: maternity pictures, baby pictures, christening, birthday parties oh just name it, it’ll be in my portfolio. heck, i’ll probably take pictures at this kid’s wedding.

this child is going to be so spoiled. he already has so many people at his parents’ workplace that can’t wait to meet him. u30.

We’re planning to take more pictures in their home in a few weeks. They’ll be coming soon.

Just received my four rolls of film that I shot over the last two months. Here are some samples from my mother’s birthday last month. I organized a surprise birthday brunch at a cute little french cafe in Park Slope, Brooklyn. A big part of my family from New York came to surprise my mom, and she was caught so off guard because she was in the middle of frowning at me for taking so long to find a parking spot. The food at aoc bistro was delicious and the service was great. The pictures above were taken in the Poconos, PA.

note how my nephew is really into the whole ‘pouty lips’ thing right now. He is so darn adorable.

I apologize for having slipped off the face of the Earth these past few weeks. I’ve been sick for the past two, and really busy otherwise.

I had the grande opportunity to take pictures of a recently finished project upstate New York for Cornell University. The Building of Human Ecology was completed a few months ago and on Oct 20th they had an opening ceremony which my company sent to. I spent a few minutes mingling with people and taking pictures at the party but then I disappeared to taking pictures of the building and all the amenities. It’s a great looking building and doesn’t at all take away from the beautiful scenery playing in the background. The fact that it is basically a glass box allows the scenery to reflect off of it and give back to the views.

Interior Design.

I had the opportunity to photograph a project that we completed a few weeks ago. It was a condominium renovation for this couple on the upper west side. My company completely gutted the place and turned it into a beautiful one bedroom apartment with a living/dining room combo, a home office and two bathrooms. The decor of the place almost seemed like a curated museum because there was tons of art work on all the walls. The owner is a lawyer, and he likes to receive art as payment, which i think is a wonderful implementation of the barter system. This is the first time I’ve done interior photography of a home/”small space”. Yes, it was a huge apartment comparable to what I’m used to living in/used to seeing my friends live in, but it was still small for interior photography. So, bear with me and my amateur photography skills.
